Description 

We occasionally get requests from customers who wish to purchase the Backfriend Backrest or Seatbase components as separate items. To obtain the maximum benefit, the Backrest and Seatbase should ideally be used as a combined unit. But needs vary and both parts can be used separately.

The Seatbase is supplied with attachment holes for use with a Backfriend backrest. The Seatbase can also be special ordered without holes or Velcro if it will never be attached to a Backrest.

Models

  • Single-padded:We recommend the single-padded model for most users. The support characteristics of the anatomically-shaped frame are best utilized with minimal padding.M/li>
  • Double-padded: Additional padding adds softness, but can mask the anatomical contour and make the seat less comfortable for some. In addition, taller users may find that the extra height of the double-padded seat causes their head to hit the roof in some vehicles.

Use | Fit 

Seated tasks

Fit

  • This is a VERY FIRM support. Even the double-padded seatbase is VERY FIRM.
  • Not recommended for people with large buttocks or thick thighs.
  • Maximum body weight 260 lbs.

Use

  • Your thighs should be well supported by the seat base. If your chair is too low, raise it with seat cushions. If your seat is too high, use a footrest.
  • Not recommended for power wheelchairs or scooters.
  • Not recommended for tall people in cars. The firm seat raises the body higher in a car seat. Good if you are short, but if you are tall your head may touch the roof.

Care

  • Remove minor stains with a damp cloth or sponge. Major cleaning is best done with a dry foam cleaner of the type used for car upholstery.
  • Some initial wear may occur on the corners if there is friction on the seat base.
  • Forcing the Backfriend into too narrow a space or knocking the edges against hard surfaces may damage the edge seal.

Warranty 

Defects in materials or manufacture which occur within 12 months from the date of purchase will be repaired or replaced at the option of MEDesign Ltd., free of charge. Repairs required because of accidental damage, normal wear and tear, or misuse are chargeable. Shipping charges for warranty services are the responsibility of the customer.
