(a.k.a., Anti-rolling casters, Anti-runaway casters, Safety caster; Self-braking caster; Automatic-braking caster; Unoccupied-braking caster; Unloaded-braking caster; roll-control caster; internal brake caster)

  • High impact modified polyamide 6 caster body.
  • Commercial quality 135 lb. load capacity per caster.
  • Non-marking and non-abrasive tread.
  • Choose soft tread for hard flooring; Hard tread for carpeted floors.

This safety caster has an internal brake that resists rolling when the chair is unoccupied, and allows the wheels to roll freely when someone is sitting in the chair. This keeps an empty chair from rolling away from you if chair is inadvertently bumped. In some European countries, all chairs are required to have safety casters. In the USA, theses casters are primarily used on slick or sloping floors and on high stools equipped with foot rings.

Important! These casters are not a solution for the disabled, elderly, or any person who pushes heavily on the chair during ingress and egress. The chair will slide if pushed, just like a a 4-legged wooden dining chair might slide. These casters simply keep the chair from rolling away on sloping floors or when bumped.

Use | Fit

  • Internal breaking casters (e.g., safety casters) are designed to unlock and roll only when you are sitting in the chair. These casters may not release and roll if you weigh less than 110 pounds.

Wheel size

  • Smaller diameter wheels produce more rolling resistance.
  • Larger diameter wheels roll easier and more freely over dirt, grit, flooring imperfections and small fallen objects. They also roll more easily over deep-carpet pile and may also carry more weight.
  • A larger wheel increases chair height. Remember to consider this if seat height is critical.

  • Please check your chair specifications prior to order.
Friction ring stem is compatible with most, but not all, task chairs and stools.

Universal mounting stem
11mm (1/3") diameter;
19mm (3/4") long.

  1. Turn the chair on its side.
  2. If you have strong hands, you can remove castors by pulling. Otherwise you may need a lever, for example, a chisel or a screwdriver which you place between the castor and the chair base. If the castor stem remains caught in the base, grip the stem with pliers and pull it out. You may need to tap the pliers with a hammer until the stem loosens.
  3. Push the new castor or glide into place.

  • Sticky casters can usually be remedied with a thorough cleaning to remove accumulations of hair and debris in the caster wheels. If after cleaning the casters still do not turn easily, they should be replaced.
